Development organizations
(work with People)

  • Advocacy and Human Rights

These are organizations that provide para-legal advice to disadvantaged individuals, groups and communities. The organization works through provision of legal services, research, legislation monitoring, publication, training, campaigns and networking. Interns in the fields of Law, Marketing, Research and Socio-Economic Development will be accepted. Tasks will be allocated to the interns depending on their study field, knowledge and fields of interests. Law students will be involved in Human Rights Law and paralegal services and Marketing/Economic students will be required to look at the social-economic impacts on poverty and development, through performing various administrative, research and related tasks.

  • Microfinance and Microenterprise:

At these Organizations learners can study the impact of international cooperation on local development projects, assess the impact of community-based interventions, mentor rising entrepreneurs from disadvantaged backgrounds and develop export strategies for the entrepreneurs. Specific micro-finance projects include setting up a pilot micro-lending program, developing micro-franchise opportunities for budding entrepreneurs in disadvantaged communities and assessing the portfolio-at-risk for microfinance institutions.

  • Health Care and Community health:

Learn and contribute to community based organizations focused on improving the quality of life through a wide variety of community development initiatives including adult education programs, income generation activities such a poultry and livestock rearing, HIV/AIDS education, construction projects, and more.

  • Education:

Learn experientially while contributing to the education system of the country. Teach languages or any other subject that is the need of the organization. As a intern you will help to empower girls and boys by giving them the skills they need for the future and to make their voice heard. A teaching qualification is not required but volunteers need to be confident in the subjects and preferably have or be studying towards a university degree. Your level of experience will determine the age group that you work with.
