About Acres Wild Farm

Acres Wild is a family-run organic farm, where the Khan family is learning to live a sustainable life by growing their own food, keep cows and farm animals and making cheese. They use natural practices for agriculture – no chemicals and no pesticides. They manage pests by intercropping plants and using natural means like neem-cake. The most unique feature of the farm is that they make gourmet cheeses like Gouda, Cheddar, Monterey Jack, Feta, Haloumi, Parmesan and Camembert.

 

Program Activities

  • Introduction to the practices of looking after cows, feeding, milking and bathing them and the process of making Azolla - Alternative Feed for Cows.
  • Basic cheese making lesson and theory that includes following the daily process of pasteurizing the milk, adding culture and rennet to make the curd, cutting the curd, ripening the curd, draining the curd and placing in a mold. Pressing the curd with weights to make the cheese round.
  • Experience Organic farming, use making compost, spreading slurry and uprooting weeds and planting vegetables.
  • Workshop by Earth Trust organization on activities like composting, permaculture and biodynamic farming.
  • Explore making bricks adobe style with mud from the farm.
  • Picnic to near by hills and bon fire at night, stay in the cottages on the farm.
