Design an Artificial Limb Prosthetic

In the medical field, professionals know ‘more of the little and little of the more’. The healthcare domain is so vast and versatile that many specialists are required in different verticals to cater to a particular disorder/disease. Skill in handling materials and machines, with attention to human sensitivities is an essential aspect of the profession.
In this Pathfinderlearners understandthe gait cycle of the human being, how humans moves, and what parts of the body aid movement. Learners explore what loss of limbs translates into physically, emotionally and socially, for a particular patient.
After understanding and researching on existing ways in which technology around the world is helping physically challenged persons, they create a prototype Artificial Limb to meet a medical need.

Program Activities

  • Studying the Human Gait Cycle:Muscles and Joints; Balance; Movement
  • Research on Technology around the world
  • Building Basic Prosthetic Models
  • Interaction with Patients and Specialists
  • Design Innovation: How can simple existing technology be improved to make an economically and socially viable prosthetic?
  • Optional: Sessions with a Seasoned Practitioner in Prosthetic Limbs
